The renovated infusion unit is located in the lower level of the Cedars – Sinai Medical Center and features 13 infusion bays surrounding a centralized nursing area. Daylight streams in from a narrow row of skylights on the east side of the space. To accentuate this daylight, colorful back-lit translucent panels suggest light filtering down further into the space. The panels depict colorful images found in nature, selected to represent life and optimism. Back-lighting subtly shifts in a four-hour cycle in movement that duplicates the earth natural circadian rhythm.
Patients will spend weeks or months at the unit, up to 6 hours at a time. In addition to bringing in light and color, the panels add dimension and an evolving interest within the space.
An upgraded space plan and natural finishes such as wood and stone were brought in to give a warm and comfortable feel to the space. Custom divider panels integrate storage, lighting and shelf space for patient’s convenience.
